Introduction

Port Talbot and District Amateur Operatic Society’s Youth Theatre was established in 1994. Since this time, it has gone from strength to strength receiving rapturous applauses to every production.

brief history
In the early 1990’s, Committee Member Meyrick Sheen constantly urged the Executive Committee of the Society to establish a Youth Theatre. Eventually the Youth Theatre was established, with Meyrick Sheen as Administrator, and Steven Parry Hearn as Artistic Director. Within a very short time the Youth Theatre demonstrated that they were ready for public performances.

The team presented ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at the Princess Royal Theatre in 1996, followed by ‘Blitz’ and ‘A Christmas Carol’ in 1997, and a yearly show has been presented ever since, playing to capacity audiences at The Princess Royal Theatre. Their proud record was maintained in 2008 with their latest offering, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, and once again they received rapturous applause for the excellence of their efforts.

David J. Roberts eventually succeeded Meyrick Sheen as Administrator, and Steven Parry Hearn handed over the reins to Claire Barnett and Ian Vanson Evans. After one season, Claire Barnett carried on single handed, and has produced one successful show after another.

Following Claire's 10th year as producer, she decided to take a back seat and Emily Roberts, Choreographer for the previous few productions and herself a former Youth Society member, took on the reins.  Her first production "in charge" was Bugsy Malone and was a roaring success.
